Samito is a Maputo-born, Montreal-based musician, producer and composer whose work fuses acoustic and electronic textures, Afro-diasporic aesthetics, and contemporary storytelling.
A McGill University music graduate, he first gained recognition with "Tiku La Hina" (2015), which propelled him onto international stages including KEXP, MUTEK, SXSW, Osheaga, Reeperbahn, and Festival d'été de Québec. His genre-defying sound has led to collaborations with L’Isle, Daniel Haaksman, Scratchclart, Philippe Cohen Solal, Poirier, Gaël Faye, Aero Manyelo, and Rymz, among others. His contributions to the industry have earned him multiple accolades, including the Révélation Radio-Canada in Musiques du Monde (2015–2016), a GAMIQ Award for World Music Album/EP of the Year (2016), a SOCAN Award (2016), and the ADISQ Félix Award for World Music Album of the Year (2017).
In 2016, Samito released his debut album Samito (Costume Records), followed by the single "Cem Cem" (Kitsuné Musique), which expanded his global reach and positioned him among a new wave of forward-thinking electronic artists. His “I Saw You” EP (Man Recordings), produced in collaboration with Daniel Haaksman, showcased his ability to fuse electronic club sounds with rich acoustic textures, laying the foundation for his evolving sonic identity. In 2018, he was featured on “Paradis Artificiel(s)”, the first solo album by Philippe Cohen Solal, founder and lead composer of the renowned Gotan Project. Inspired by Théophile Gautier’s Club des Hashischins, the album is built around the works of Charles Baudelaire (1821–1867), a 19th-century French poet whose collection Les Paradis Artificiels explores the effects of opium and hashish on creativity and perception.
Through collaborations with Haaksman, Solal, and other global electronic music pioneers, Samito established himself as both a versatile creator and a cultural bridge-builder, leveraging his artistic vision and international network to redefine the intersection of Afro-diasporic, electronic, and experimental music. Beyond his solo work, Samito has contributed as a composer, producer, and music director across various creative fields. He has scored brand campaigns SS25 for Little Burgundy (2025) and Sid Lee Reel (2023, in collaboration with CasperMakesBops + Cult Nation). The SPRLUA project, an experimental producer-rotative collaboration, was extensively featured on TV5 Québec’s Demain L’Afrique.
